If an institution's connection to the Web goes down due to cyberwarfare or the electrical grid failing, our print collection still won't be very useful. The online catalog will be unavailable. Patrons can be pointed at some call number areas, but they won't be able to determine if a book is checked out or a journal issue has arrived. And we won't be able to check items out in the usual way, either.
And if your lights/phones/HVAC are networked, you may not even be able to turn on the lights or copy machines.
Very scary. That's why we don't think about it too often.
